Description
Letrozole, also known by the brand name Fermara, is a highly selective and very potent third-generation nonsteroidalaromatase inhibitor. This drug was initially developed as an antineoplastic agent and is commonly used in the treatment of estrogen-dependent breast cancers
In men, letrozole (Fermara) is used to reduce the concentration of estrogen in the blood and promote an increase in endogenous testosterone and gonadotropin hormone levels. Its mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for converting testosterone into estrogen. An excess of estrogen can have negative effects on the central nervous system and hypothalamus, reducing LH secretion and, consequently, testosterone production.
It is important to note that letrozole does not directly eliminate the estradiol already present in high levels, but it prevents the formation of new estrogens, helping to stabilize hormonal balance.
Purpose of use
In bodybuilding and strength sports, Fermara (letrozole) is primarily used during anabolic steroid cycles. Not all AAS are subject to aromatization, but letrozole is particularly recommended when using substances such as testosterone and its derivatives (methandrostenolone, methyltestosterone, etc.).
It should be remembered that moderate levels of estrogen are physiologically beneficial for muscle growth, libido, and overall well-being. For this reason, letrozole should be used in controlled doses, avoiding excessive estrogen suppression.
How to use
The most rational approach involves regular monitoring of estradiol: the
-
every 10–14 days with short-acting steroids (e.g., testosterone propionate, methandrostenolone)
-
after 3–4 weeks with long esters (enantate, cypionate, Sustanon)
The average starting dose of letrozole is 0.25 mg daily or every other day. After about 10 days, it is recommended to repeat the estradiol test and adjust the dosage based on the results
It is well known that even very low doses (about 0.02 mg) can reduce estrogen levels by about one-third. Because of its long half-life, letrozole can also be taken every other day
Dosage
A 1-mg dose of letrozole can reduce blood estradiol levels by about 80%, reaching over 98% in experimental studies.
Fermara is typically started at 1 mg every other day; in cases of marked aromatization, the frequency may be increased. The optimal dosage should always be determined based on blood tests
