How is Lilly Humatrope growth hormone used and dosed?

Lilly's Humatrope HGH is sold (including on this website) in three different quantities: 18iu (6mg of product), 36iu (12mg of product), and 72iu (24mg of product). Regardless of the quantity, Lilly HGH products come in a large syringe without a needle (the plunger) containing 3.15ml of diluent and a cartridge containing the active ingredient (growth hormone) in powder form.
Lillygrowth hormone must be reconstituted, which is a very simple process: remove the long cap at the base of the syringe containing the diluent, and you will see a needle. Hold the syringe vertically (with the needle pointing down) and take the cartridge, making sure the black triangles are pointing upward. Push the cartridge against the base of the syringe so that the needle firmly enters the top of the cartridge, and push until there is no further travel. At this point, hold the cartridge and syringe firmly together and push the syringe plunger until all the diluent has entered the cartridge. Then remove the cartridge very gently: the cartridge will now contain the active ingredient and the diluent, and from this point on the solution is very delicate, so do not shake or agitate it and handle it with care. Wait until all the powder has dissolved in the diluent (you may invert the cartridge a few times) until a clear solution forms. At this point, the growth hormone is ready for use. Given its delicate nature, store the cartridge in the refrigerator. The syringe can be discarded.
Use Lilly growth hormone with an insulin syringe.
In theory, the cartridge should be used with the special dosing pen, but this is A) expensive and B) not very accurate, especially at low doses. Ideally, an insulin syringe should be used; unfortunately, however, the scale on the syringe does not correspond to the units for the growth hormone in question, so a quick calculation must be made.
Let's use Lilly's best-selling product as a practical example: Lilly Humatrope 72iu.
The cartridge contains 3.15 ml of product, which is equivalent to 72 IU of Humatrope. 3.15 ml is 315 units on a 0.5 ml insulin syringe or 157.5 units on a standard 1 ml insulin syringe. Now, simply divide the notches by the number of units to find out how many notches equal a single unit (1iu):
1 ml syringe: 1iu=157.5/72 -> 1iu=2.18 marks
0.5 ml syringe: 1iu=315/72 -> 1iu=4.375 marks
- So, for example, if you are using a 1 ml insulin syringe and want to take 2 IU of the product, simply insert the needle into the cartridge and draw up approximately 4.36 of the product (2 IU x 2.18) and inject the product (subcutaneously or intramuscularly).
- If, on the other hand, you are using a 0.5 ml insulin syringe (less common) and want to take 2 IU of the product, insert the syringe needle into the cartridge and draw up approximately 8.75 units of the product (2 IU x 4.375) and inject it.
You can use the same solution withinsulin and other peptides; the mixture does not affect the product.
